Kyauk Kalap Pagoda

Kyaiktiyo Golden Rock Pagoda

Posted By : admin/ 82 0

One of the most iconic sights Southeast Asia has to offer is that of the gravity-defying Golden Rock Pagoda, perched on its ledge above a jungle-cloaked valley, seemingly about to plunge into the void. From the roadhead at Kinpun, an arduous six- to seven-hour hike takes visitors up the Paung Laung ridge to the rock; less devout pilgrims are carried up on litters or take one of the pickup trucks that grind up a bumpy, potholed track for an hour to the mountaintop. Visitors who spend the night in or near the pagoda will be well placed to see the ethereal sight of the setting or rising sun illuminating the richly gilded boulder, which is the third most revered site in Myanmar after the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon and the Mahamuni Temple in Mandalay.
