Rising from the glassy waters of an artificial lake, the golden Kyauk Kalap Pagoda caps a thin, knobbly finger of limestone draped in vegetation, a spec- tacle all the more amazing for its backdrop of beautiful karst outcrops. Visitors are permitted to visit the small monastery at its base and climb to the top for views of Mount Zwegabin. The resi dent monks are vege tar ians and animal lovers, which explains the colony of rabbits hopping around the grounds.
