Tour Overview

Day 1

Day 1: ARRIVAL YANGON

Arrive at Yangon International Airport. Upon arrival, a representative will be waiting to greet you at the airport and accompany you on the private transfer directly to your hotel. The best arrival time is before 9:00 in the morning. Please set your travel arrangements accordingly or book our optional pre-night stay in Yangon. After check-in, head out to the busy streets of Yangon and together with your guide go for Yangon city tour, starting at the Sule Pagoda, a gleaming octagonal pagoda that stands squarely at the centre and walk alongside the colonial-style buildings, passing by the Strand Hotel, Mahabandoola Garden and Independence Monument. Then we´ll visit Little India and Chinatown colourful cacophony of restaurants, temples and markets that offer insight into an entirely different side of Burmese society. Then we´ll continue to Bogyoke Aung San Market, the largest market in Yangon. There will be plenty of time to browse the hundreds of stalls for souvenirs and bargains and to drink a traditional cup of Myanmar Tea at a local tea shop. To wrap up our first day of Myanmar we´ll visit the most sacred Buddhist pagoda in Myanmar, Shwedagon Pagoda, the 99-metre tall structure that is covered in gold leaf and surrounded by 64 other smaller stupas. Walk around the complex with your guide and discover why this sanctuary is so well loved, while observing the magical colours reflecting on the pagoda’s walls during the sunset. You will be back in the hotel in the late afternoon. Overnight in Yangon.
Day 2

Day 2: YANGON – BAGO - KYAIKHTIYO (195 km – 4.5 hrs)

After breakfast at the hotel, get ready for your scenic drive to Kyaikhto – The Golden Rock. En-route we´ll stop in Bago, the ancient capital of the Mon Kingdom, 80 km northeast of Yangon. The wealth and power of this city are shown off by the golden pagodas proudly standing in the old city centre. We´ll visit 55-metre long reclining Shwethalyaung Buddha and the four seated Buddhas at Kyaikpun, and later on we´ll step inside the magnificent Shwe Maw Daw Pagoda, where huge reclining Buddha sits, which is more than 2,000 years old and is believed by locals to represent Buddha resting after attaining nirvana. We´ll continue our drive to Kyaikhtiyo, the getaway to the Golden rock. Upon arrival to the Kim pun base-camp, we´ll take one hour drive in an open truck up-hill in the rain forest to the Golden Rock. This colossal rock topped with a pagoda, precariously perched on the edge of the hillside, is covered in gold leaf. It is one of the most sacred religious sites in Myanmar! Legend says that the rock itself is perched on a strand of the Buddha’s hair. You will check in to your hotel in the late afternoon and you´ll have the rest of the day at leisure enjoying the essence of this magical place. Overnight in Kyaikhtiyo.
Day 3

Day 3: KYAIKHTIYO – YANGON (195 km – 4.5 hrs) – HEHO (1.5 by plane; included) – NYAUNG SHWE/INLE LAKE (35 km – 1 hrs)

Enjoy your breakfast at the hotel, check out and return to base camp by open-air truck from where you will drive back to Yangon airport to board a domestic flight to Heho and Inle Lake. Upon arrival in Heho Airport, enjoy the scenic one-hour drive to Nyaung Shwe, the gateway to Inle Lake. Enjoy the spectacular view over the tranquil landscape and observe the rural lives of the locals. Upon your arrival to Nyaung Shwe, check in to your hotel and spend the rest of the day at leisure. Overnight in Nyaung Shwe/Inle Lake.
Day 4

Day 4: INLE LAKE

Breakfast at the hotel is followed by an exciting sailing venture around the backwaters of the Inle Lake. Firstly we´ll visit a local market and catch a glimpse of the local life and products, made by ethnic Pa-O, Danu and Intha people who come to these markets to sell and buy goods. Afterwards we´ll onboard the private longtail boat that will take us around the Inle Lake's most fabulous sights. Sail across this vast, serene lake, past Buddhist temples and the stilt houses of the Intha community. Watch the local fishermen propelling their boats with their unique leg rowing techniques. Admire the beautiful floating gardens developed from clumps of water hyacinth secured in position by bamboo poles. Visit Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda, the primary Buddhist site on the lake containing five gilded images of Buddha. Discover Inle Lake’s local artwork at a silversmith workshop, the traditional weaving town of Inpawkhone and a cheroot processing plant where stogies are made by hand, and Nga Phe Kyaung Monastery. At the end of the tour, enjoy the rest of the evening relaxing and soaking up the magical atmosphere of this unique location. Overnight in Nyaung Shwe/Inle Lake.
Day 5

Day 5: INLE LAKE – PINDAYA – HEHO (100 km – 2.5 hrs) – MANDALAY (0.5 hrs by plane; included)

Wake up to breakfast at the hotel, check-out and prepare yourself for one hour and a half drive to Pindaya, picturesque farmed areas in Myanmar. En-route we´ll stop at an authentic local market in Nyaung Shwe to refresh with some fruits and vegetables and other leafy food and products. We´ll visit wooden Shwe Yan Pyay Monastery that hides beautiful carvings and collection of Buddha images. Once in Pindaya, enter into the Pindaya Cave, a massive limestone cavern filled with thousands of gilded Buddha statues. Learn about the local handicraft workshop of traditional Shan Paper and Umbrella. After this remarkable excursion we´ll continue our drive to Heho Airport, where you will onboard domestic flight to Mandalay. Meet and greet our representative, once you land at the Mandalay airport, who will take you for the short sightseeing of this royal city. We´ll go to see Kuthodaw Paya famous for housing the world’s biggest book, and Shwenandaw Monastery, the only remaining building from the 19th century. This grand teak wood building is known for its exquisite woodcarving. To wrap up our sightseeing we´ll head up to the Mandalay Hill to see romantic sunset over this sacred scenery. Once back in Mandalay City, check in to your hotel and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure. Overnight in Mandalay.
Day 6

Day 6: MANDALAY – MINGUN – MANDALAY (80 km – 2.5 hrs)

Rise and shine to the breakfast at the hotel and get ready for your one-hour cruise down the Irrawaddy River, heading to Mingun, a popular riverside village close to Mandalay. We´ll visit the famous Mingun Pahtodawqyi. We´ll continue to the beautiful Hsinbyume Pagoda, whose distinctive style is meant to resemble the mythical Mount Meru and we´ll go to see the largest uncracked bell in the world, Mingun Bell. After the Mingun excursion we´ll go back to Mandalay by boat, and once back in the city we´ll go to learn about the traditional workshops and unique cottage industry. Artesian production of wood carvings, kalaga tapestries, and gold-leaf, using the local techniques that persist for centuries, is a real experience. To end up our exploring we´ll go to visit the holiest shrine in Mandalay and home of Myanmar’s most revered Buddha image, Mahamuni Pagoda. The 4-metre-tall seated Buddha has been covered with so much gold leaf by visitors over the years that is has acquired an unusual lumpy texture. Enter the temple for a close up look at the Mahamuni Buddha image and then spend some time walking around the temple grounds soaking up the spiritual atmosphere of the surroundings. Overnight in Mandalay.
Day 7

Day 7: MANDALAY – AMARPURA – SAGAING – MANDALAY (50 km – 1.5 hrs)

Enjoy your breakfast at the hotel and then prepare for your following experience. Today we´ll drive to Amarapura, an ancient capital built on the advice of astrologers, passing through Sagaing. Besides imposing sites such as Mahagandayon monastery or U Bein Bridge, the oldest and longest teakwood bridge in the world, a passage that spans the Taungthaman Lake near to Amarapura, today's sightseeing will be full of workshops and local handicraft. In Amarapura we´ll learn about the silk weaving and manufacturing of exquisite handmade products. Once in Sagaing, we´ll pay a visit to Sagaing’s local market, a typical Burmese market and we´ll observe the artisan production of a wide range of handmade products such as pottery, silver, and other handicrafts. To wrap up our sightseeing we´ll drive to Sagaing Hills, on the top of which the Soon U Ponya Shin Pagoda sits, the spiritual center of Myanmar that is popular for thousands monks and nuns, as a spiritual retreat for meditation and contemplation and on the way back to Mandalay we´ll visit a small pottery village and we´ll catch a glimpse of the traditional process of making the ubiquitous water pots. You will be back in the hotel in Mandalay in the late afternoon. Overnight in Mandalay.
Day 8

Day 8: MANDALAY – BAGAN (11.5 hrs by cruise; included)

After breakfast at the hotel, prepare for a pick-up at reception and transfer to Mandalay port, where you will board the cruise down the Ayeyarwaddy River to the ancient city of Bagan. While sailing through the backwaters of the Ayeyarwaddy River, you can explore typical villages and observe the rural life of local Myanmar. You can catch a glimpse of the traditional Myanmar cuisine and taste some specialities on the cruise or just lay back and relax at the sun deck. Our crew team will demonstrate different ways of wearing Myanmar Traditional Longyi (garment worn by Myanmar people) and Thanatkha (a fragrant paste made from the bark of Thanatkha tree) to enforce your Myanmar experience. Enjoy the gorgeous sunset over the water level. Once in Bagan, meet our tour representative, who will assist you with the transfer to your hotel in Bagan. (Please note the cruise operates only from October to March. From April to September the cruise will be substituted by a domestic flight Mandalay - Bagan). Overnight in Bagan.
Day 9

Day 9: BAGAN

Breakfast at the hotel is followed by Bagan sightseeing tour. We´ll start by contemplating the views of the magnificent plains of Bagan on the way to the golden stupa of the Shwezigon Pagoda, where you’ll receive a crash course in Bagan’s rich history. Then, visit the nearby Wetkyi-In Gubyaukgyi, a cave temple with exquisite jataka mural paintings. After the lunch (own expenses) we´ll continue our tour to Anando Pahto, an architectural masterpiece and one of Bagan’s most beautiful temples, Gubyaukhyi Temple at Myinkaba that hides well-preserved frescoes and oldest paintings in Bagan, and Manuha Temple that hides three seated Buddha images along with an image of Buddha entering Nirvana. Enjoying the sunset over this unique ancient town will be the best way how to wrap up our Bagan´s discoveries. Overnight in Bagan.
Day 10

Day 10: BAGAN – MOUNT POPA – BAGAN (120 km – 2.5 hrs)

Wake up to breakfast at the hotel, that are followed by the excursion to Mount Popa, the spiritual headquarter to Myanmar’s infamous ‘37 nat’ (spirits). Ascend the mountain via a winding covered staircase watched by the curious monkeys that populate the area. At the top there is a monastery and temple complex with shrines to the 37 nats where you can admire spectacular views over the landscape. Once back in Bagan we´ll continue with the remaining architectural sites and when you´ll be back in the hotel in the late afternoon, enjoy the rest of the day at leisure, during which you can further explore Bagan’s mystical atmosphere. Overnight in Bagan.
Day 11

Day 11: BAGAN – YANGON (1.5 hrs by plane, included)

After breakfast at the hotel, prepare for a pick-up at reception and transfer to the airport for a domestic flight to Yangon. Upon arrival in Yangon, you will be welcomed by our guide and if time permits, you can take a half hour ride on Yangon’s Circle Train to catch a glimpse of the outskirts of town and see the lively, colourful lifestyles of local people in Yangon’s rural areas. In the afternoon, we´ll visit Kyaukhtatgyi Pagoda, home to a 70-metre long reclining Buddha. A visit to Kyaukhtatgyi provides a great overview of Buddhism, with murals depicting the life of Buddha. The feet of the statue are carved with traditional symbols, and locals can often be seen gathering here to pay homage and pray. Overnight in Yangon.
Day 12

Day 12: DEPARTURE YANGON

Wake up to breakfast at your hotel. Then prepare to check out of your room at the scheduled time and transfer to the airport for your onward or return flight.
